More Transcription (Seek scraps and writing journal)

Simeon trying to convince Jonah to use technis. "You could create world, rebuild paradise."
"I will rebuild paradise, but it will be stone upon stone."
Eventually grows opposed to even using Onim, but he has to at one point to save people?

Flash flood out on flatlands. Dry earth, flows over, have to get higher ground --> basin drains off through river that becomes torrential, child swept up, drowns. Send of in river with candles.
Flatlands become a tool to discuss hardened earth/soul that won't drink in the life that surrounds them, flows over and about them.

Screams of chokros resounding through the darkness

These problems started a long time ago, before you were even born. You can't expect to fix them in a day
Acknowledge the struggle, and then be strong

Jonah discovers plot because he mispronounces word that is code word for secret society (watch word). "Can she be trusted?"

Pinions glittering in the fearless rays of the dayspring star

Open air museum - "This is my dream, my memory."

A paradise if you make it so.

sky split by lightning

There's no such thing as hate--only fear and sorrow
There are only two emotions: love and fear

Pyrris shards on the ends of chains (like steel wool)
rose tea, prophets outside the tea stall
A time when we will bow by the river to drink or huddle in the cool, dark shade of the oak

Revolution is good. Revolution means we care about something.
Fire, earth, air, and wind raged within the void, and from them was born man. Body of clay--earth and water. Spirit of fire and air. Each in contrast/competition

The revolution that we stage must find place within our own hearts. We must return to goodness, to honor, to diligence. We must repent. The idea of behind revolution is that of revolving, of rounding the circle once more to reclaim those things that are lost to us--those virtues that are lacking within us.

Let others rise to take our place.
Young men are always ready to die for truth--what we need is young men who are ready to live for truth.
We are abandoned by those who live in fear.

Grudge between Jael and Simeon
"I will go into the dark."
River as glass
"Isn't he (Scout) a little young for this kind of thing?"
The dreamers--the ones who dream with their eyes wide open

Jael speaks as if he knew my heart --> Jael a great leader

"Khaios is our new paradise. One may walk the streets and buy anything in the whole world."

..., our faces to the wilderness and our backs against the cool white expanse of the wall
Cloven sky/riven sky
Society has no will to protect these people
Scapegoat -- Jonah blamed, case blown up by the wealthy, self-seeking social elites to accomplish their personal ends.

Silver Fox (Zeke?)
Brown trench, technis rifle, wealthy b/c of "jobs" he does for people (illegal). Respected, rose up out of poor districts.

Mouth dry like ash
His mind naked before him
Form quivers in the blast of hot air

[Spirit pulled by two worlds are weak. Strongest are those drawn by the other world but wandering this one--they are the ones that truly burn with life. The others are worn down by their attachment to this world. They become weak and indolent.

bodies as wine skins under their feet, their acrid nectar painting the thirsty/cracked lips of the parched ground/earth.

Fish mongers don't know much about optics
This tale was never mine to tell, but tell it I must

Sentry spheres
1. Sense mind
2. Far sight?
3. Incept --> the people in the courtroom all felt the sudden desire to be quiet

Lanterns as ghosts on the water
Oarsmen fight with oars, rapiers

Village rain maker "uses" aquis shard but doesn't actually. Just knows how to predict it.

Cities teach men to fear their neighbors

"I hated you before I knew you because I thought I knew you."

Old woman--eyes wide with the terror of someone too old to rebuild their life, too old to pick up the scraps and start over
"slumming" - rich kids dress like poor to get away from their lives

Moonlight through the slats in the door

This graceless age
Kiting trains to get up on wall see rich sector

Until we learn to rise together, we'll never get anyway."
Children's kisses in the dark

I live on borrowed breath

Strike at the shadows
Someone eaten by beasts. The shriek of leopards soon died in the night
"Two gleaming, golden eyes" pierced the darkness

Jael: revenge and power; Jonah: belonging, truth; Kara: love, family; Simeon: power, progress; Scout: revenge, belonging

Witch (weaver)
Glassblower (dreams)
Spider (memory)
Astronomer

Hard of hearing guy hears a single world, says funny things to break up the tension

Steel smelting
Tempering steeling, hardening it to the needed level for its intended use
A heart that's been wounded has two choices: to grow cold and stony or to grow empathetic, to understand others' pain

***Reactor blows up, is flooded. Jonah parts waters before him, saves poor district; river surges through central portals, glass buildings come down, enemies swallowed in the flow of jagged water. Next day, glass sparkles in sunlight (they camp out on building top?), water drained away. Shimmering, shattered paradise. High pitched whir of super condensers on trains, only you can hear it, as if calling them to some distant land.

Find out that Simeon was imprisoned then thrown out, has connections with underworld and speaks Catif --prison tongue
Supercooled magnetic trains

Don't shut your eyes to the truth

"When did we decide that conscience was too hard a thing to keep? When did we concede to let others keep it for us?

Games, simulations allow the mind to bend --> gives Jonah the flexibility of mind to truly unlock the creator's spark, the Onim

"Our Eden is one that we must make for ourselves."
"The Eden that we inherit is the one that we build for ourselves."
It was named after a place from the storybooks, a place from long ago, where everything was as it ought to have been.
Four rivers that flow from the heart

I am a beauty that no fire nor disfigurement can take away
Only the pure see purity.
"A thousand thousand years, and what does mankind have to show for it? What can a thoughtful, honest man expect from mankind in the future? Nothing."

Older generation gone, younger still not wise, but we have to press on anyway

Death is a forgetting.
"I'll remember it."
"Not if you're dead you won't."

Seeding technis crystals to make fractal sails.
Train through wild kava trees

Park with a world in bricks. We used to sit on top of the world and talk of little things--paradise, love.

Fields of oily stalks with flowers peeking up. Easy to spot above the uniformity of the rest. Workers pulling them out, piling them and burning --> symbol of dreamers, artists. "Not good for anything."

Your shadow never touched our threshold

Kids ride lines magnetically attached to trains. Called "tailing," "trailing"
Simeon saves Jonah in the end. "I don't understand." "I guess everyone dreams of being hero at some point, right?"
Sun that bleeds out across the sky
Sky stained with blood
Sons of Eden

Calyx sphere (shielding)
Young mother gazing into Jonah's eyes, looking for his mother in him; knew at once that this was the child
Youth--when you still don't know that one day, you won't exist

All heroes were first men and then heroes -- Mara, "You realize how prejudiced that is, right? So now only the guy can be the hero?"

Urban segregation by race and income
Whites never on the streets? See them only in figmentary world of TV, internet

You won't let me be anything more than the kid you met back in the city all those years ago. I'm different, though you never took the time to notice.

Hunger and thirst are physiological realities. Sometimes I go without food or drink simply to remember that I am still alive, that my heart has not stopped beating.

The fear is in the night and not the man. Were the world always light, man would fear no darkness but that within.

Evolution of technis devices: rifles/pistols, blasters, arc cannons

Eventually, second book goes north.

Military industrial complex has discovered how to synthesize technis spheres out of shale or something like it. People in the big city wear inert shards on rings, bracelets, earrings (becomes a critique of diamonds, etc.)

Technis rifles become an extension of the soldier's body--firing is not a physical action but a thought. the body and the weapon function as one, inseparable. It usually takes recruits a couple of days to get eh hang o fit, but soon it become natural for them to have a weapon in their hands--it's almost like they can't feel complete without it.

Shard insertion points in lower back, mid back, neck. Jael once had one implanted. When he left Khaios, he ripped it out. Now he has a big scar.
Stomach pain when shard is first implanted.

Villagers tear off shreds of clothing and leave them at his feet as he sits on a rock drying off.

"She looked like she was a hundred!"
Laughs. "Off by a long shot! She's a hundred and thirty!"
Expecting a smile, but he is met with a blank stare.
"We all call her grandmother, but really she doesn't have anyone left from her family. they were all killed a long time ago."

"Saalem, its bar" Peace to you/hello/thank you, son of the north (itz mekh)

Aiden from a land to the north. When he returns to his mother, she tells him that she found him and raised him. "You are from a great free land to teh north." That is what eventually takes him to the north. "Only old men and children ever find it, and even then they don't always choose to stay."

Poor people stealing from rich merchants in the marketplace. Kara, "Why doesn't anyone stop them?" "Well, because they have lots, and they got it from the people, not from working hard." "Does that make it right to take it from them?" "I don't know, it's just what people do."

"That wasn't your decision to make. It was mine!"
"You made it mine by your inaction." Blind from explosion. "This is only the beginning now, and there's nothing you can do to stop this wheel rolling." Laughs.

Destroy factories and metro?
Scavenger/vanguard escort

What am I to take from humanity, and what am I to give?

Elder is closest to death, and the birds whisper secrets to him. (ancestors)

Death pregnant on the field of battle
Grave digger--ritualistic figure, bridge between worlds

I've always felt there was something otherworldly--almost sacred--about the metro, and I thought I was alone in this until I saw the funeral on the platform. Apparently, someone had a train to catch, but theirs was going the other way.

Lions on plains

I fear to write of mankind for as to betray the beauty that I see therein. something so sacred in my mind becomes profane beneath my untrained hand.

Parkour atop the buildings

I'm scared today. I think I'm scared every day, but today it's something different. Today it's as though a fog has closed around the next 6 months of my life, and I know neither what will be nor how I am supposed to handle it.

Life will paint itself with the colors we provide it.

Simeon -- just wants to keep building, will go to whoever facilitates that.

Last scene involves some sort of mass destruction. Atom bombs in atmosphere burn up ozone, fry plants?

***Healer walks through the woods, gathers energy from trees; walking when Jonah and Kaiya approach, sense them and gets back right as they arrive

Healer touches with hands--rough on his cheeks

Crystally orb--smash on ground, opens up rift/portal that goes to open gate

Pulses

We know everything, and we know nothing. We see all things, and yet we are blind."

You don't feel knife wounds at first; you don't know you've been cut.

Hawks--robbers (high class), use their influence in politics for personal gain/interests

"That old lie that man is nothing. I will make him forget."

Blink gates-- Enforcers (Watchers?) can blink using blink pads. Young people have hacked the system, can do short-range blinks.

Imigis--people who paint their skin, distort their outer appearance.

Nostalgia fora world I've never know, as if I had forgotten a part of my own soul or hid it away deep within me.

I never knew fear until I was a father. I never realized I wasn't invincible until I realized that I could lose something more than my life."

Do you ever feel that the world wasn't made for you?

Determine your realities: people are imperfect but good, govt. is corrupt, man seldom changes, friendship disintegrates after adolescence

There is beauty hidden in the gray
We have only false and vain things as our sustenance
How am I to live off of that which nourishes not?

Damning myself so I don't have to hear the heavens singing sophistry
Time rounds down the rough and radical edges of our ferver, our ambition

Stone desires
Impoverishment

Sometimes, it is very hard to be brave.

I wish that I could see the prophet's eyes
His cracked lips as the fiery words spill out

Carve these words from the mountains of our shame
Daily, the few sacrifice the many to feed their own gluttonous appetites.

Companies mistrust govt, so they keep on an army of Enforcers. Govt losing power and influence, more so a puppet to personal interest. Has little actual power.

Suppress the clamor of my mind.

==========================================
To whom do you bestow your song?

Little girl spirit turns into bear. Follows good people through the forest, mauls enemies.

How shall I write when the well of ink and wonder has run dry? How can I capture the beauty of a world devoid of grace? How can I lead others to truth when I am blind to it?

The curse of memory
Instead of regret, forgiveness, they eliminate the past

Street sweeper. The streets get pretty dirty, but everyone kind of just cleans up their little patch, and somehow it all works out. you just gotta work on the little things.

Man of God
Man in suit on train with computer, dirty, grungy man with feet up on chair. Attendant "Feet down." Leaves. Dirty man puts back up. Suit snide. "Put your feet down, or I'll tell, and he'll kick you off." Dirty snaps back, "I'll do what I want." As dirt leaves, stands. "Excuse me." I thought he would swear, berate. "I'm sorry I snapped at you. It's been a rough week."

Isis gathering Osiris
Memory as the judge of worth; things worth remembering

I don't want to be a doctor; I want to be a healer. The line of good and evil may run through the heart, but no matter how many times I cut a heart, I'll never divide the two with steel. You can dissect my heart or brain, but you'll never find me in the sack of skin that remains when light has fled from my eyes.

I don't have time to be forgotten; I don't have time to wilt in another queue.

My pencil carves angular graphite bones into the page, and gnarled hands shape...
Sharp/angular graphite bones
Water colors--bled at first--sanguine spots of color on the tablecloth, but the next mornign,t eh page was dry, lifeless. the spirit, if once there, had fled.
Oil paints still flat, still lifeless
Then smoother, softer, rounded lines
Hands amputate and make it whole again
Face that still won't take on life, blank stare, lips too cold--with too much blue--and oil on canvas, layer upon later of red and red and red again.

"We cannot be everything we read." -S.E. Hinton

How much time are you investing daily in becoming a writer? How about a saint?
Just don't let your poetry be ordinary
Good poetry is the spontaneous overflow of feeling

Writing doesn't resurrect: it buries. It means something is understandable, condensable, finite, finished, in the past.

Modern media blunts the human mind. Literature keeps men emotionally alive and morally sensitive
It is time that thought was added to your reason, heart to your charity, soul to you religion

this unintelligible world
"all the dreary intercourse of daily life" - Wordsworth, Tintern Abbey

Drink from the waters of Lethe

"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do have some say in who hurts you."
"It sure was a privilege to love him, huh?"
"All real love stories die with us."
"You gave me a forever within the numbered days."
"In the last weeks, we'd been reduced to spending our time together in recollection." -John Green

Reincarnation is about learning to live out this one life with the same understanding and grace and beauty of a Buddha or a butterfly or a bird.

pyx-box heart

American diaspora

Your life may be changed in one burst of light. What was wrong seems right.

A barren fortress (education)

The tireless pounding of shells all around us and the Vesuvian soil that spews up the shroud the dead in dirty, ashen palls.
The refrain that is our age, the Dantean prelude to my song

to leave in record a moment of grace at God's hand (Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek?)

A book is dead next to the living world. (Gogol, Dead Souls)
